Newer Roofing Systems You Should Know

As an adjuster, it can be a daunting task to keep up with all of the improvements in existing commercial roofing systems along with the numerous combinations of how to install these systems – all of which impact a roofing repair or replacement cost estimate.

To help shed some light in this area, here are two newer roofing systems that you may not be familiar with:

APEEL Protective Film
Carlisle Syn Tech System’s new APEEL Protective Film application guards the surface of TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) membrane from scuffs and dirt accumulation during installation, eliminating the need to clean the roof once the project is complete. TPO and other bright white membranes are often specified for their ability to reflect heat and increase energy efficiency, which can be significantly reduced by foot traffic and minor scuffing during installation. Once the TPO is installed, the APEEL Protective Film is simply peeled off and disposed of, leaving a brand new, bright white membrane with no loss of reflectivity. Carlisle guarantees the film to release with very little effort as long as it is removed within 90 days of installation.

OMG RhinoBond
The OMG RhinoBond system is a blend between mechanically attached and adhered TPO and PVC membranes. The system uses the same fastener and plate to secure both the insulation and the membrane to the deck without penetrating the roofing material. An OMG heating tool is used to electromagnetically heat the adhesive on the top of the fastener plate to the back of the membrane to achieve a higher uplift rating than either the mechanically attached or adhered methods with very little, if any, additional cost in installation. Approved by most manufacturers, this method uses substantially fewer fasteners, which cuts down on material and labor costs. There are numerous videos on YouTube you can explore.
